Ritchie Jones Was A Waste Of Time?

Swindon Town Boss Maurice Malpas has revealed that he ended talks with Ritchie Jones because he showed a lack of urgency to join Swindon Town.

Jones put pent to paper on a contract with Hartlepool United and Malpas revealed that the club withdrew their contract offer because the player showed no commitment or ambition to join the club.

Speaking to the clubs official website Malpas said, 'All I will say is that he showed a lack of urgency to come here and that's not the type of player we need here. He didn't get back in touch and that's where our interest ended.'

It seems another player from a big club thought he was bigger than he was and thought the club would wait and come begging for him to sign.

The attitude and manner in which Maurice Malpas is conducting himself is exactly what the club needs and for one, I applaud Malpas' attitude.

Time waster trying to boost his own confidence or importance it would appear...good luck to him - open those double doors he's on his way through !!

As a friend of Ritchie's I can tell you that he was offered a weeks trial by MM. Who in their right mind would go on trial when they have a concrete offer on the table!!! MM needs to have a re-think - does he seriously think that a player will be urgently wanting to go on trial instead of signing a contract - i don't think so. Swindon were still chasing Ritchie last week so for MM to say that he pulled the plug is utter rubbish - he is trying to save face !!

If Jones was bigger than he thought he was, maybe he should have signed for Burnley, or Hearts, or Tranmere. Those clubs along with us were interested in signing him. Its a shame MM has been seemingly bitter about this move maybe he should have offered him a contract instead of a pre season trial. I wonder if Charlie Mulgrew will get the same berating in public or has MM ran out of sour grapes.
