Swindon Town: A Relegation Battle 2009

It's been a poor season - not in one of those Premiership 'we're only 4th in the League but in the cups' poor - I'm writing about those truly poor seasons result in relegation battles. I wish we were in the former!

It's safe to say that we'll know our true fate once April arrives because of the run-in.

Let's take look...

10/03/09 Colchester United [A]

Since replacing Geraint Williams with Paul Lambert The U's have gone from the relegation zone to outsiders for the Play-Offs. Town lost when they were poor so knowing us we'll get a result!

Last Result: STFC 1-3 CUFC

14/03/09 Leeds United [A]

One cannot help but think this is one is a write-off. We've got a dreadful recent record with Leeds.

Last Result: STFC 1-3 LUFC

17/03/09 Southend United [H]

This one could go either way! Home advantage is key.

Last Result: SUFC 2-1 STFC

21/03/09 Hereford United [H]

It was previously seen as a dropped point against a relegation cert. This will be quite simply a must win!

Last Result: HUFC 1-1 STFC

24/03/09 Northampton Town [A]

A fixture we've actually won this season! Hopefully Swindon will be able to grab a point or more in the return fixture.

Last Result: STFC 2-1 NTFC

28/03/09 Yeovil Town [A]

Another must win - Huish Park will be tough but they're getting sucked back in since Russell Slade left the club.

Last Result: STFC 2-3 YTFC

04/04/09 Crewe Alexandra [H]

Town's loss began Crewe's impressive recent form. They've given themselves a great chance to survive but Swindon must win this one.

Last Result: CAFC 1-0 STFC

11/04/09 Brighton & Hove Albion [A]

Somewhere we don't like going and tend not to win. It will be a massive game for both clubs.

Last Result: STFC 0-2 B&HAFC

13/04/09 Leyton Orient [H]

Danny Wilson was named as manager and it was followed by a win at Orient.

Last Result: LOFC 1-2 STFC

18/04/09 Carlisle United [A]

The long trip to Carlisle could determine our fate.

Last Result: STFC 1-1 CUFC

25/04/09 Bristol Rovers [H]

This midday game will be massive, you'd hope our fate will be sorted by this one. If it isn't, potentially it could be a game to remember (hopefully in a positive way)

Last Result: BRFC 2-2 STFC

02/05/09 Peterborough United [A]

Who knows how important this game could be for different reasons

Last Result: STFC 1-1 PUFC

Looking at those remaining fixtures i think you are going to have to win all your home games to avoid the drop zone.

It could go either way - it's in Swindon's hands still... We've got to win, simple as that.
