Swindon Town 3-2 Brighton & Hove Albion

After that the soul destroying penalty shoot-out heartache of 2005 - Town fans have been forced to endure a torrid record against Brighton & Hove Albion.

With a run of 0-3, 1-2, 0-2 and 0-2 (six of those nine goals scored by Nicky Forster) you could understand why some Swindon fans feared the worse for this '6 pointer'.

Danny Wilson opted to stick with the same XI that started against Crewe Alexandra last week - Lloyd Macklin replaced Hamdi Razak on the Town bench.

Brighton were missing Chris Birchall through 'illness' but has been recently heavily linked with a move to Los Angeles Galaxy in the last week.

Albion boss Russell Slade opted to play former Oxford United forward Craig Davies alongside Lloyd Owusu up front.

Depsite Albion's decent start Town had the first clear-cut chance of the afternoon with Billy Paynter missing a good opportunity.

Adam Virgo is a name that will haunt many for many more years and in the 38th minute he pounced again to put Brighton & HA into the lead with a tap from Tommy Elphick's header after a Dean Cox corner.

Half-Time: B&HA 1-0 STFC

The early stages of the first half belonged to Swindon. The equaliser came shortly after the re-start when on-loan defender Gordon Greer punished a lacklustre defence from a Jamie Vincent free-kick.

A matter of minutes later Simon Cox's shot was parried by former Bristol Rovers goalkeeper Michel Kuipers and Billy Paynter put the ball in the net to make it 2-1 to the Town!

If the traveling fans were happy at 2-1 they were utterly jubliant on 58 minutes when Anthony McNamee's cross was met by Simon Cox to make it 3-1 one.

Now it wouldn't be Swindon without allowing a nervy conclusion. Brighton pulled one back in injury time through a Gary Dicker volley.

Depsite some scary moments the Town survive and earned 3 absolutely crucial points.

FINAL SCORE:

BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION 2-3 SWINDON TOWN
