13 Players are Released

13 Players are Released

Thirteen out of the seventeen out-of-contract players were told to find new clubs today as Danny Wilson began what must surely be a busy Summer.

Peter Brezovan

Signed by Dennis Wise in 2006, the former Slovakia under-21 international goalkeeper had the perfect beginning to his Swindon career by saving two penalties and keeping a clean sheet in the 1-0 away win at Hartlepool United.

Things looked good until serious injury ended his first season early.

From then on he fought with Phil Smith for the No.1 jersey - a fight he eventually lost.

Brezovan made 66 leagues appearances for Swindon (76 in all competitions)

Jack Smith

Signed from Watford by Andy King in the summer of 2005.

Smith was pretty much a first teamer throughout his four seasons at Swindon. Experiencing both relegation and promotion while at the club.

It looked like Smith would leave last summer but opted to signed a one-year deal. He was one of Swindon's more consistant performers but lost his place after injury.

Brezovan made 138 leagues appearances for Swindon (153 in all competitions)

Jamie Vincent

Released from the club on the same day a statement announced that he had been arrested by Wiltshire Police.

The experienced defender signed by Dennis Wise and was a regular (when fit) throughout his Town career.

In a recent poll Vital Swindon users voted Vincent as the player they'd most like to see offered a new deal.

Vincent made 84 league appearances (89 in all competitions)

Barry Corr

Barry Corr's injury plagued Swindon Town career has finally come to an end.

The Irish striker was signed by Paul Sturrock and helped secure promotion back to League One.

However, despite looking good when fit it simply wasn't often enough.

Corr made 36 league appearances (44 in all competitions).

Lilian Nalis

The experienced Frenchman will leave after one rather disappointing season. He was committed and professional throughout but his performances failed to win over the Town fans.

He is expected to retire.

Michael Pook

Made his debut for Swindon in the LDV Vans Trophy loss at Boston in October 2003.

Pook went on to play 109 league games for Swindon always dividing the opinions of the Town fans with his performaces.

Maurice Malpas wanted to release Pook last season but the midfielder activated a clause in his contract that meant he would stay for one more season.

Blair Sturrock

Brought in by his dad after training with the club. Sturrock showed plenty of endeavour but perhaps lacked that little extra to be a first team player in League One. He certainly looked at home in League Two and has done well during his loan spell at Torquay this season.

Hamdi Razak & Ben Joyce

Both rarely featured for Swindon Town but neither did enough to impress Danny Wilson.

Joyce made a good start to his career scoring on his debut against Port Vale last season.

Razak came in from the French amateurs leagues and scored a few in the reserves but failed to make the most of his limited first team opportunities.

Chris Allen

The young midfielder made 12 first team appearances for Swindon, often impressing the Town fans but he rarely featured under Wilson.

Tom Evans, Jake Hyde & Sam Morris

Former youth players who signed pro deals last year never came close to the first team.
