ALUMNI: Hewlett to Yate?

ALUMNI: Hewlett to Yate?

Former Swindon Town midfielder Matt Hewlett has been offered the chance to re-start his career with Southern League Division One South & West outfit Yate Town.

The Bluebells were recently relegated from the Southern Premier Division and manager David Mogg is looking for experience to bolster his squad.

Talking to the Bristol Evening Post Mogg confirmed that he had 'spoken to Matt and he has intimated that he would like to come along to pre-season training.'

Bristol born Hewlett, 33, started his career with Bristol City - making 127 appearances before a Free Transfer move to Swindon in 2000.

Hewlett was a favourite of Andy King's but never really highly regarded by the Town fans. His best season was the 2003/04 campaign where he missed only one league fixture (inc. P-O's) while Swindon made the Division 2 Play-Offs.

After 179 league games for Swindon he was released in 2005. He joined Torquay United shortly afterwards.

He retired from professional football in 2007 due to a back injury.
