Firstly, a big thank you to Jean-François Christophe for what must surely be a Razzie award winning piece of ill judged cheating that led him to get sent-off.
Interestingly, the BBC's self-proclaimed genius Steve Claridge felt Christophe was caught and therefore fouled. I haven't seen it enough times to be 100% sure but what followed but what I do know is that he went from rolling around in agony to competing for the ball in a matter of seconds... Weird!
He might have been caught but in a week where diving has been dominating the back pages dear old Christophe deserved to be dismissed.
Steve Tilson felt his team deserved a penalty (or two) and a draw... While Danny Wilson noted flaws despite a good win. Scott Cuthbert and Tope Obadeyi scored their first goals as Swindon beat Southend.
The mood post-Southend reminds me a little bit of the opening day of the 2008/09 season when we beat Tranmere Rovers 3-1. Many fans oozed praise for Town's comfortable victory but others warned that Swindon were average and that Rovers were dreadful.
However, in this instance many fans who attended felt that Town need to make a significant improvement if we want to make good progress this season.
The good news is that even the most pessimistic fan could acknowledge that it's looking brighter at SN1. It's early days and that thumping at Gillingham remains a constant reminder.
Danny Wilson is just a couple of players short of a genuinely decent team. Craig Easton isn't even on the bench which suggests that the midfield is good while we're using the loan market to bring in genuinely promising players from big clubs instead of Bristol City reserves.
But we can't get carried away because there are plenty of better teams in this division and we cannot afford to get slack especially after taking two goal leads.
But I am confident that we can compete which is a darn sight better than last season is it not? I wonder what would've happened under Maurice Malpas!?!
...a win is a win.
What do you think? Are things looking good or are we cruising for a bruising?
