During Saturday's fiery 1-1 draw with Millwall an incident occurred between Kevin Amankwaah and Millwall forward Neil Harris.
The said incident happened after Andy Frampton performed a reckless tackle for which he would be sent-off for. As the two sides begin the usual post-foul arguments that happen in this situation all the time, Amankwaah and Harris go from the norm to a ferociously angry Harris.
What we later learned was that Kevin Amankwaah had referenced Neil Harris' battle with testicular cancer as a jibe. This is what, understandably, incensed Harris.
Originally, Amankwaah denied any wrong-doing attributing any comments as the usual quarrels we have seen on the football pitch. Later, a statement published on the Swindon Town official website suggested he did in fact make these comments.
However, as the fall out continued Amankwaah released another statement stating that he was not forced into making these apologies and then stated that his comments were in retaliation to a racial slur made by Harris to Amankwaah.
Harris has since reluctantly made a statement of his own denying that he had racially taunted the Swindon Town defender.
Firstly, nobody can condone whatever Kevin Amankwaah has said, I wouldn't dream of doing it. To recover from testicular cancer and then continue your football career is an inspring achievement.
The internet forums appear to have written off Amankwaah's claim of racial abuse simply as an attempt to get himself out of this ugly business - but can we rule this out? I don't think so.
I'm not suggesting that we grab torches and pitchforks and try and drag Harris' name through the mud, as what is happening to Kevin Amankwaah at this moment, because this has been blown completely out of proportion already (both players have essentially indicated this). However, why would a man immediately make such a comment unless provoked? Amankwaah has no reputation of nastiness.
These are all questions that are being asked left-right-and-centre and it is very tricky to write this article in fear of being misread but sadly this is the main news within Swindon Town FC at the moment.
Once more, I would like to stress that Vital Swindon do not condone Amankwaah's comments. This is still ongoing news so much more could emerge later on.
