STFC: Reserves Face Plymouth 2nd's Today

On Monday evening many would have witnessed a battling Norwich City side lose in the dying minutes against Leeds United at Elland Road. The Canaries put in a very good performance, a performance that would have dismantled Swindon if they fail to progress from the dire display against Hartlepool United.

So with that in mind the Swindon Town Reserves fixture with Plymouth Argyle Reserves is an important one as fringe and formally injured players look to fight their way back into the first team.

Of those to have a genuine claim to first team spots are Sean Morrison, Craig Easton and Michael Timlin.

Many have stated that is was an off day for the Town back-four with Callum Kennedy unable to cope with Hartlepool player James Brown while Greer and Cuthbert appeared less comfortable than usual.

Easton and Timlin could capitalise from a midfield showing that was far from impressive. Both will be looking to fill that Jonathan Douglas role although Jon-Paul McGovern is keen to fill that void for himself.

There's also Charlie Austin, the former Poole Town hitman has impressed David Byrne and while he is not the finished article his raw talent and his natural ability to put the ball into the net could earn him a place on the bench - especially with Alex Revell struggling.

Returning to the set-up is Alan O'Brien who has been out the last month with a hamstring injury. Byrne has indicated that the Irishman might get a run-out today.

Also returning is former Town skipper Hasney Aljofree who has been out for almost a year with a knee injury.

Plymouth Argyle could also use this fixture to give some fringe players a chance in front of Paul Sturrock as he prepares for a trip to Ashton Gate on tonight.

Swindon Town Reserves vs. Plymouth Argyle Reserves takes place at the COUNTY GROUND today at 2pm.
