ALMUNI: Déjà vu for Brez

Former Swindon Town goalkeeper was thrown into the deep end last weekend as he was given a surprise debut by Brighton & Hove Albion manager Gus Poyet at Exeter City this weekend.

The Slovakian had been on trial at the Withdean but was given a short-term contract by Poyet (who had coached him at Swindon in 2006) due to injuries to Michel Kuipers and Graeme Smith.

The game appeared to show why Danny Wilson decided to keep Phil Smith and release 'Brez' with poor kicking almost concluding in a goal for the Grecians in front of the Big Bank. He also gave away the penalty...

...but as we all fondly remember, Brezovan saved two penalties on his debut for Swindon in the 1-0 win at Hartlepool United in 2006.

A couple of months later Brezovan experienced an arm injury that ended his League Two campaign with the Robins. His contract was extended but he was never the same player afterwards. Whether that was down to confidence, a lack of a long run in the squad due to the regular changes with Phil Smtih or just poor coaching given to him after Dennis Wise, Gus Poyet and Andrew Beasley left for Leeds United.

Good luck to Brezovan (except if/when he faces Town in a couple of weeks time), he's definately good enough at this level when he wants to be (remember he was linked to the Championship and beyond while at Town) but his inconsistant performances made it impossible for Danny Wilson to keep him on.

Sorry, but I think he is going to struggle ... good luck to him in other games than against us.
