The Swindon Advertiser claims that Danny Wilson is interested in signing former Portsmouth and Carlisle United forward Vincent Péricard.
The Cameroon born former French under-21 international is a free agent after turning down a new contract with the Cumbrian club earlier this week.
Quotes suggest that Wilson is keen by stating that Péricard 'is another player we`ve enquired about but whether we will be able to get him in, we`ll wait and see..."
This, of course, means very little. It simply suggests that he finds Péricard a decent League One player and being a free agent it's almost inevitable that an enquiry would be made!
Wilson continues by commenting that being interested in such a player indicates 'the quality of players we are looking at. We need to bulk this squad up, and with all the loans and young lads in there it looks very thin when you take them away.'
That's fair enough but is Péricard really as good as some would say?
The forward started his career at St. Etienne where he impressed enough to earn a deal with Italian giants Juventus. He spent two season there without playing a Serie A game.
Harry Redknapp brought him to England while at Portsmouth and after making an early impact, any early promise fizzled out. He spent time at Sheffield United and Plymouth Argyle on loan - it was at the latter that that Péricard found himself in trouble during 2006 when he was caught speeding in Devon clocking 103mph. On 24 August 2007 he was sentenced to four months in prison after being found guilty of perverting the course of justice. Péricard had denied about driving the car in question.
By this time he was playing for Stoke City. He was a regular in his first season but again found himself being shipped out on loan - this time with Millwall and Southampton.
This season he joined Carlisle United where he has kick-started his career.
Péricard scored four times in ten league outings for Carlisle earning rave reviews. However, he feels he has done enough to earn a deal elsewhere.
You would guess that he might have a Championship gig lined-up or can a higher placed League One team lure the former Stoke man?
