Late Goal Hell: A Swindon Town Story

GROUNDHOG DAY! Town have done it again. Nicky Bailey's late effort gave Town fans that awful 'what if' feeling yet again this season.

Why is this happening!?!?!

Here's a look at the games where Town have let leads slip in the latter stages of the game.

01. Oldham Athletic (away) 2-2

Billy Paynter scored in injury time but it was immediately cancelled out by a cross/shot by Kieran Lee.

02. Wycombe Wanderers (home) 1-1

Town led for the majority of the game but a 89th minute goal by Ashley Chambers ruined our day.

03. Exeter City (away)

We've actually done it twice at Exeter. One in the JP Trophy we a penalty shoot-out win redeemed the statistic.

However, Richard Logan's 87th minute strike in the league added more frustration to the league situation.

04. Millwall (home)

Another fixture where Town led for the majority of the game. Danny Schofield scored in the 82nd minute - ARGH!

05. Charlton Athletic (away)

It would have been a great victory #1 However, Llera's late, late striker put an end to all that!

06. Southend United (away)

2-0 with ten minutes to go. Need I write more?

07. Charlton Athletic (home)

Oddly, this was the first time I shrieked with dismay! Seven is a lot of games and a lot of points!

There have been only three other league draws - a 0-0 draw at Milton Keynes Dons and a 1-1 draw at Walsall where Town scored with ten minutes to go and the 1-1 home draw with Colchester United.

We appear to put this pressure on ourselves with IMO the substitutions It seems to upset the balance for a while, and Charlton had done little or nothing in the game up to that point, then when it became sh!T or bust for them, they threw the kitchen sink at us when we could not get our defence or attack balanced.

The Charlton goal last weekend was the first time I genuienly reacted with pure frustration when I learned of the goal. Shame, this concentration needs to be sorted.
