STFC: Greer to become a Gull?

According to the Swindon Advertiser, it appears that a fee has been agreed for Gordon Greer and he is due to travel to Brighton on Monday to discuss terms and have a medical.

It appears the long transfer saga of the summer may finally be over with Greer seemingly poised to join Brighton. He has been the subject to a number of verbal offers this summer and an offer has finally been accepted.

A lot will be made about selling our captain and yes Greer has been a great leader but as a defender I firmly believe that young Sean Morrison is ready to step up to the challenge of replacing him. Too many times last season Greer gave away silly little free kicks around the box and the moment of madness in the Play off semi final second leg appears to be his last action in a town shirt. However we should all remember that it was Greer signing on loan that stabilised our defence and without him we would almost certainly have been playing our trade in League 2 last season. For those 6 months and for the majority of last season we owe Gordon a lot of respect.

In terms of captaincy I would assume that Jonathan Douglas will be taking this over just as he did for the Play off final. However with 11 leaders in the team you could argue that any player could be given the captaincy.

No way would we let him go unless he wanted to leave. Disappointing but I don't blame the club (like many seem to be doing).
