With Andy Marshall rumoured to be replacing Rhys Evans as Swindon Town's number 1, Vital Norwich editor, Richard Matthews gives his view's on the potential signing and the affects this could have on Swindon Town.
'I know it isn't my job, but I thought this might be of some interest to you all. STFC is my second club and this struck me
Andy Marshall will serve you well if this is true. He was good at Norwich; it was only when he walked on a Bosman the year he won our player of the year award to our arch rivals, Ipswich, that NCFC fans decided they would piddle in his mouth if his throat was on fire.
He had a mare in the Premiership with them and George Burley bought in temperamental Sereni that put Marshall into the 'also ran' frame, despite his believing himself much better than he really was.
Burley loaned him out to Gillingham and Wolves before releasing him. From there, Denis Wise signed him to Millwall where his biggest claim to fame was guarding the net against Man U in the 2004 FA Cup final.
As for the possibilities of him signing for Swindon, Marshall has a massive ego. He is still close friends with players in the Premiership and the International squad and believes that he should be rubbing shoulders with them on a daily basis. The truth of the matter is that he wasn't always Wise's first choice at the Den. Wise would take him if he would come, after all he is a free agent, although I do wonder if him and Wise actually see eye to eye. He is not a particular favourite of mine, but Marshall is an excellent instinctive stopper.
Sorry for getting carried away, but hopefully, this will save you hunting around for info on Marshall.'
We thank Richard Matthews for allowing us to use his view's on this site.
