Simon Cox gets Capped

Simon Cox gets Capped

Swindon Town favourite Simon Cox won his first international cap for the Republic of Ireland senior side this evening.

Cox, 24, scored 43 goals in 81 league appearances for Swindon Town between 2007 and 2009. He eventually left for West Bromwich Albion for £1.5 million but is still highly regarded by the Town faithful who acknowledge both his workrate at Town and how he conducted himself when it was obvious that Town would be forced to let him move on.

Cox started in Ireland's fixture with Northern Ireland in the Nations Cup.

It is also believed that the Cox deal included a clause which involved Town receiving money if Cox ever earned a cap.
