'If It's Football, It's Vital'

So has Vince departed or not?

Vincent Pericard, remember him? On January 15, 2011 the former France under-21 and Juventus(!) forward made his last appearance in a Swindon Town jersey during the 1-0 loss to Yeovil Town. He was a second half substitute and after that he disappears into the ether. Weird.

Well, it might not be THAT bizarre because Pericard has been largely ineffective throughout his entire Swindon Town career.

Pericard arrived in January 2010 after refusing to extend his contract at Carlisle United. He was brought in to bolster Town's attack and promotion push. He huffed and he puffed but couldn't put the ball into the net.

He failed to score during the Play-Off season but finally got his first goals during an inspired performance at Southampton in August 2010. The problem was that it was in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and with all respect, we needed him to score in the league! He managed only two league goals in 34 attempts.

The club have been quite quiet on departing players. As Dossevi, O'Brien, Prutton, Rose, Cuthbert and Sheehan have all departed for new clubs, we still don't know the fate of Pericard, 3rd keeper Jakub Jesionkowski and Milan Misun.

Like Cuthbert and captain Jonathan Douglas, Pericard had a clause in his contract that meant the club could keep him for a further a year. They didn't want to trigger the clause with Scott Cuthbert but surely they won't with Pericard?

Could Vincent Pericard do a job at League Two level? Post your comments below...

Really cant decide on what I think about VP - for most of his first few months, we kept thinking "he's going to settle soon, and then we'll see the best of him soon - for god's sake, he played for Juventus AND Stoke" - then each appearance seemed to be more inept than the last, and we began to dread seeing him get the nod from DW to warm up, you could almost hear the deflated groan go around CG whenever he appeared on the touchline. Even remember one game where his appearance prompted some derision, and DW turned angrily to the Arkells and mouth "for ****s sake, dont boo him"........ Yet, reading the tweets of the players, they all seemed to rate him really highly - we all thought when Austin left he would come to the fore.........and then again nothing. Almost ended up feeling sorry for him sitting all alone in the sponsors seats up behind us in the Arkells. A total utter enigma, our Vince - I hope for his sake he moves on and is successful. I just cant see him wanting to stay with us after the stick he took. And personally I'd rather not see him in the line up come August. Too many chances, too many failures.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's been gone for weeks. The club have been very quiet regarding their out-of-contract players. How complicated can stating that "Pericard and Jesionkowski have left the club" be?
