Summer Signing #2: Joe Devera

Summer Signing #2: Joe Devera

Joining Jonathan Smith as Paolo Di Canio's first signings of the summer is Joe Devera.

WELCOME TO SWINDON JOE DEVERA

Born in Southgate (London), Joe Devera can operate at either on the right or centre of defence.

The 24 year old came through the ranks at Barnet where he made his debut, like Smith, in the Football League Trophy. In Devera's case it was during 3-0 loss against MK Dons in November 2005.

During his early days the defender spent a month on loan at Northwood but became a regular for Barnet during the 2006/07 season. Devera was a half-time substitute for Ismail Yakubu in Barnet's 1-0 victory over Swindon in February 2007.

Just under a year later, Devera featured against Swindon again, this time in the F.A. Cup as Town crash out on penalties (Swindon famously fail to score with their four attempts).

In all, Devera played 177 league games for Barnet and scored twice.

During his career at Underhill, Devere won the 'Player of the Season' twice and also earned 'Most Improved'.

In March 2011, Devera declared his interest in playing for the Venezuela national team. He told Sky Sports that he was 'hoping they will seriously consider me'.
