Pow! Right in the Risser

Paolo Di Canio looks set to make current trialist Oliver Risser his next signing for Swindon Town.

Talking to the Advertiser, Di Canio admitted that he is a fan of the Namibia international midfielder.

'Risser is a player that I like' stated Di Canio and continued by telling the local newspaper that Risser 'is happy and excited to be here and he has shown great enthusiasm.'

Perhaps Risser's attitude has won Di Canio over. The Italian went on to explain that the 30 year old 'wants to win something that he can be recognised for, and that is the way I want my players to think.'

Risser started his career as a junior in his native Namibia before moving to Germany as a teenager to play for SpVgg EGC Wirges in the Oberliga Südwest. He went on to play a couple of seasons with Borussia Dortmund II and then SV Sandhausen in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg.

A brief spell in Iceland with Breiğablik UBK in 2006, Risser returned to the German lower leagues with Bonner SC and Hannover II.

Risser made another attempt to break Scandinavia with Manglerud Star Toppfotball and Lyn of Norway and then Finnish outfit Kuopion Palloseura.
