Timlin Set To Make Southend Move Permanent

Midfielder Michael Timlin looks to have played his last match for Swindon Town after Town and Southend agree a fee that will see Timlin make a permanent move to Roots Hall in January according to the Southend Echo and BBC Wiltshire.

Timlin joined Town on loan from Premier League side Fulham during the 2006/07 League Two promotion season and went on to make over 100 appearances for the Town after Maurice Malpas brought him back the following season in a permanent transfer.

Timlin was a mainstay in midfield as well as in defence during the ill fated Malpas era before falling out of favour with Danny Wilson and Paul Hart.

Timlin turned down a permanent move to Southend after enjoying a loan spell there last season and signed a new two year contract to remain at the County Ground in June despite not seeing much game time last season stating he was looking forward to playing for Town boss Paolo Di Canio.

Timlin partnered Oliver Risser in Midfield for the Town on the opening day of the season however that would be his last game in a Swindon shirt after he mysteriously found himself out of the team despite playing well during that match. Paul Sturrock the man who brought Timlin to Swindon originally put in a call and took Timlin back to Roots Hall as a direct replacement for Craig Easton who moved back to Scotland in the Summer.

With Timlin in midfield, Southend embarked on a 17 game undefeated run that saw them top the League Two table. Last week both Di Canio and interim chairman Jeremy Wray stated that Timlin would return to the County Ground as they did not want to help a promotion rival unless Southend paid big money.

It is now believed that Swindon and Southend have agreed a 5 figure sum that will see Timlin`s loan move become permanent in January. With Di Canio looking to bring in 5 or 6 new faces in the transfer window getting Timlin off the wage bill frees up some money.
