Today the Swindon Advertiser starts the absolute non-sense linking Oxford United striker James Constable with a move to the County Ground.
Prior to our 2-1 defeat to our yellow and blue friends down the A420, Town boss Paolo Di Canio said how Constable was a Swindon fan through and through and how he would love to play for Swindon.
Well as we all know the mind games resulted in Di Canio having egg on his face as Constable dismantled Swindon then kissed that vile badge on the Oxford United shirt in front of the Town End. Hardly the signs of a true Swindon Fan.
Now we are not sure if someone is having a laugh but the Swindon Advertiser has stated today that "Beano" is back on our radar and we could be prepared to make a bid.
Let`s get a couple things straight. For the most part Constable has been rubbish in the Football League, he failed at Shrewsbury and Walsall before finally finding his level in the Conference with Oxford.
Even since Oxford returned to the Football League, the jury has been out on whether he can be a cosntant performer at this level after finding himself on the bench quite a few times since Oxford's return. Constable kissed the Swindon badge in the 2-1 defeat in August, making Beano public enemy number one.
Even if Town were interested, Oxford are hardly likely to sell their most popular player to their local rivals even if we made a stupidly high bid which I would hope we wouldn`t given the fact Constable is an unproven commodity higher up the footballing ladder.
Let`s hope someone from either the Swindon Advertiser or Oxford Mail ends this nonsense again ASAP because last time it backfired right in our faces. We need to be concentrating on promotion, not stories which are very very unlikely to happen.
After his badge kissing micky taking at the County Ground he would never be welcome at Swindon as a fan or a player ever again.
WE DON`T WANT JAMES CONSTABLE.
