Swindon Town will welcome Scunthrope United to the County Ground this Saturday which means four ex players return to the County Ground for the first time since their departures.
Top of that list is petulant Striker Leon Clarke who famously fell out with manager Paolo Di Canio last season after refusing the run the following day following Town`s loss to Southampton in the Carling Cup. Clarke scrapped with Di Canio in the dressing room then sat on the pitch like a baby before being banished from the club for good. Since his tenure at Town, he has had no less than four other clubs after heading out on loan to Chesterfield where he scored for fun before being sent to Charlton in exchange for Paul Benson. Since that time he went to Crawley Town on loan before joining Scunthorpe on loan this season where he has found a rich vein of form. He is sure to get a lot of stick from the pro-Di Canio Swindon crowd.
Left back Callum Kennedy also returns to the County Ground after being released at the end of last season after making 33 appearances for Town. Despite signing a two year contract at Scunthorpe his tenure there has been blighted by injuries.
Striker Mike Grella who was on loan at Swindon from Leeds United during the abysmal 2010-11 season will return. Grella made 7 starts for Town scoring 1 goal and bizarrely left the club after saying he wanted to be in the Starting XI. The thing was, in 6 out of 7 games he was. Useless Ex-manager Paul Hart mumbled that Grella would not get paid the money by Swindon Town despite him being under contract.
Finally midfielder David Prutton who was supposed to be a cracking signing for Swindon is on loan at Scunthorpe from Sheffield Wednesday after they realised how rubbish he was at Hillsbrough. He is another player who is likely to get stick for his rubbish tenure at Town.
We need to be on high alert though, former Town players have a knack of scoring against us, although it would be interesting to see Clarke's reaction!
