Swindon's Pook On The Goal Trail

Swindon Town`s rejuvenated Midfielder Michael Pook says he hoping to score many more goals after netting against Grimsby Town last Saturday.

'Every midfielder would like to think they could reach double figures for the season - that would be a lovely target." Pook said.

'Ten goals a season for a midfielder would be a good contribution and if me or Curtis Weston can get anywhere near that, we should be fine.

'Evo (Paul Evans) has four already, including a few crackers, and it would be nice to catch him up and, ultimately, for all three of us to keep scoring and help the forwards out.'

Pook told the assembled media that it was manager Dennis Wise who has urged his midfielders to get closer to the goal to help take the pressure off the strikers. 'I was delighted with the way the goal panned out having been told by the manager all week that I needed to get into the box more,' Pook said.

'It was a fair way for me to get there to be honest and that's what made the goal as it was only a simple tap-in. As the manager kept saying to me and Curtis in training, 'If you make runs into the box, then things can happen. Get in there and anything can happen'.'

As for Pook`s rejuvenation he said, 'We have been working hard on doing that and it would be nice to get a few more goals this season."

Many fans have joked that Pook has taken on Paul Ince`s skills ever since the Guv`nor departed the County Ground.

As for the future Pook made it clear he wants to find the back of the net more often, 'I like to score goals but they come in patches. I've gone through one without scoring and, hopefully, now I'll go through one scoring.

'I'm under way now and, hopefully, the floodgates will open!' Pook finished.

Pook`s only other goal for the first team squad came last season against Wycombe Wanderers in the Carling Cup first round which Town ended up losing.
