King Named Manager Of Grays Athletic

Former Swindon Town manager Andy King has been named manager of Conference side Grays Athletic.

King who managed 197 games for Swindon during two tenures as manager has been anxious to get back into football after being sacked after a terrible start to Swindon`s League One campaign last season.

King`s greatest success as manager was during the 2003/04 season when he led Swindon Town to the Division 2 (League 1) playoffs against Brighton and Hove Albion. Town would go on to lose on penalties and were not able to build on the success of that season due to financial restraints.

King had a history as a decent scout however his mouth often let him down at Swindon and soon found himself as a hated figure at the County Ground due to his treatment of the fans and players.

King brought in some great players during his time as manager. Sam Parkin, James Milner and the late Jimmy Davis were all brought to the County Ground thanks to King.

After a poor start to the 2005/06 League One campaign, King was sacked and replaced by Iffy Onuora in September 2005. Swindon Town would ultimately go on to be relegated to League Two at the end of the season.

King had previously applied for the Grays Athletic job only to be over looked. Grays will be hoping King can lead the small London club to the football league at the end of this season.

Could be a good move for him as Grays have been up there and won a few Non League Cups

He has eye for talent spotting - reserve judgement on his management skills.
