Police Issue Warning To Town Fans

Wiltshire Constabulary have warned Swindon Town fans 'behave yourself or be nicked' prior to their crucial match at Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

Wiltshire Constabulary along with forces from the Avon and Somerset Police will police the match robustly and anyone caught causing trouble or becoming violent due to alcohol will be arrested on the spot and spend the night in prison.

Trouble flared at the County Ground earlier on in the season where both sets of fans ripped up seats and threw them at each other in the closing stages of the match. Trouble also flared in Swindon Town Centre when yobs decided to fight in the bottom of town and scared Christmas shoppers by chasing each other through the streets and running away from police.

Bristol Rovers fans also smashed up a pub across from the train station last season when a match with Oxford United was cancelled.

Emotions will be running high with Swindon needing just one point to secure promotion back to League One whilst Rovers need to pick up points to have a shot at making the League Two playoffs.

Fans going by train are advised to take extra care this Saturday with some fans likely looking for trouble. Police will likely keep Swindon fans in the ground after the game.

There will be a heavy police presence outside the ground and in the City Centre due to the expected trouble in Bristol this Saturday.
