Swindon: Premiership Return The Aim

The ultimate aim of the Swindon Town shareholders is to return to the Premier League according to Manager Paul Sturrock.

Speaking to the press on Friday Sturrock said, 'Mike (Diamandis) and the Wills' are fans. They want their club to be back in the Championship and vying for a place in the Premiership.'

Whilst it is good to see such ambition a return to the Premier League would cripple us once again.

Town's last adventure in the Premier League during the 2004-05 season saw Town facing financial ruin less than 5 seasons later and the effects of that are still being felt today.

Town still hold the record for most goals conceeded in a Premier League season.

Swindon Town have neither the financial backing nor the stadium and facilities to be a Premier League club.

Should the club get a new stadium than perhaps the Premier League return could become a reality but right now it is but a pipe dream.
