Swindon Town have finally been able to get rid of Ibon Arrieta and Mauro Almeida the club has announced.
The duo arrived at the County Ground when BEST Holdings were looking to take over the club.
Arrieta signed a 2 year deal whilst Almeida signed a contract to the end of the current season.
Neither player managed to break into the first team although former boss Paul Sturrock was forced to allow Arrieta to run around for a few minutes in 5 games this season.
When BEST holdings deal to takeover the club fell through, Sturrock told Almeida and Arrieta they have no future at the County Ground and to leave.
The players were believed to be on stupid wages for players who clearly had no future in the professional game in England.
Almeida joined after being released from Accrington Stanley last season, no offence to Almeida but if he was released by Accrington, what chance did he ever have of playing all the time for Swindon?
Arrieta will best be known for his over the bycicle kick goal against Brentford in the Johnstones Paint Trophy earlier in the season. Arrieta only ever looked like scoring when his back was to play which was quite odd to say the least.
The club continue to negotiate the departure of Franklin Anzite who in our opinion was one of the worst players we have ever seen to play in a Swindon Town shirt.
Both Arrieta and Almeida leave the club with immediate effect.
