Swindon Town carry on the fight against relegation with a visit to Layer Road.
'Goals win games, it's a simple as that, and everybody needs to be chipping in, '
Lee Peacock
Colchester have slipeed from the top of the table recently and all the goals dried up and currently find themselves in 6th position in the League One table. Colchester have signed striker Scott Vernon from Blackpool and should make his debut against Town. There has been a sudden goal drought at Layer Road since the clubs inspired performance against Premiership high flyers Chelsea in the F.A Cup. Striker Gareth Williams leaves the U's and heads to Blackpool as part of the Vernon deal. To learn more about Colchester United please view our CLUB GUIDE by clicking here.
Chris Iwelumo has been brilliant this season scoring 14 goals for the U's this season. Swindon's defence and midfield has looked shakey and this could be the perfect chance for Iwelumo to add to his goal tally.
Swindon currently sit in 23rd in the League One table after Rotherham's win earlier this week and desperatly need to start winning games. Some good news on the injury front. Defender/Midfielder Charlie Comyn-Platt makes his long awaited return from injury. Midfielder Paul Smith is still out with injury. Jamie Cureton will return to Colchester after a successful spell earlier on in the season, which lead to the strikers revival. Defender Jerel Ifil is still suspended but will return next week against Chesterfield.
After having his best match in a Swindon shirt, can the former Wigan man continue his domination in midfield?
Swindon Town beat Colchester 1-0 earlier in the season with a last minute goal to finally lift the club off the foot of the table. Many players on both squads have featured for both sides, most noteably, Jamie Cureton, Tony Thorpe and Mark Yeates.
Referee's for this match are, F Graham, M W McPherson and G J Sutton. P Barnes will be the fourth official for this match.
Hard to say really. It all depends what Swindon team shows up. The one at Forest or the one at Yeovil. I will say 1-1.
Saturday 25 March 2006 against Chesterfield at the County Ground.
