Darlington vs. Swindon Town

96.6 TFM Darlington Arena

Saturday 19 August 2006

3pm Kick Off

UP NEXT: Darlington

Swindon Town travel up the the 96.6 TFM Darlington Arena Saturday to play David Duke and Darlington in what is sure to be an excellent match.

Vital Quotes:

'Christian is our penalty taker and still will be.'

Dennis Wise on Christian Roberts, after Roberts missed a penalty against Rochdale last weekend.

Darlington Team News:

It's been a busy week for the Quakers but a very very productive one that should now see the club compete for automatic promotion if not win League 2 this season. Darlington have signed prolific striker Julian Joachim for more than £100,000 who ironically laid a beating on Darlington last weekend in his final game for Boston, and welcomed back striker Alun Armstrong who was on loan to Rushden And Diamonds. Armstrong has scored 9 goals in 31 starts for the Quakers. Defender Shelton Martis left Darlington and signed with Scottish Premier League Side Hibs after turning down a full time contract at Darlington. Barry Conlon may also get a run out if he does the Swindon defence will have to be at it's best. Conlon scored a hat trick for Darlington during their first game of the season.

Player to watch: Julian Joachim

This is a no brainer. Joachim scores goals and has done at every level he has played at. There is a reason why The Quakers paid a handsome sum for the 31 year old striker. Joachim will have a point to prove to his new home fans and will hope to be able to solve Swindon's defence, that has been solid thus far this season.

Swindon Town Team News:

Dennis Wise and Gus Poyet will be available to play a part in the game but will likely play in Town's Carling Cup clash with Brentford next weekend. Gareth Whalley and Andy Gurney will not feature due to injuries. Fola Onibuje could get a run out after scoring 2 goals for Town's reserves against Yeovil. Swindon Town will be looking to win their fourth straight game and be top of the League 2 table (depending on Walsall's result) after the match. Michael Pook will likely start on the bench with Paul Evans starting for Pook in midfield.

Player to watch: Jerel Ifil

Ifil has been solid this season, but with a team like Darlington who score goals for fun, The 'Beast' will have to be at his best to stop The Quakers from scoring.

Match Facts & Stats

Swindon Town and Darlington are 50-50 historically. Both teams are 7-1-7 lifetime in all competitions. The last time the clubs played Swindon won away 4-0 on 9 October 1990.

Ref Watch:

E L Ilderton will be the referee for this match. P E Curry and R Tiffin are his assistants while P Quinn will be the fourth official for this encounter.

Match Prediction:

This will be an exciting match and a hard one to predict. Darlo will be looking to bounce back from their 4-1 defeat last Saturday, while Swindon Town will be looking to extend their undefeated streak. I think 0-0 would be my prediction.

Next Fixtures:

Carling Cup: Swindon Town V Brentford, Tuesday 22 August 2006 @ The County Ground, Swindon.
