Field Mill, Mansfield
Tuesday 5 December 2006
7:45pm Kick Off
Swindon Town make the journey to Field Mill on a cold December evening to take on 18th place Mansfield Town.
'Some will bite the dust as far as their selection is concerned for their performance (against Morecambe) and others will have to make sure they perform to the standards I want to achieve to keep their places.'
'If we are going to be promoted then we`re going to have to perform much better.'
- Swindon Town Manager Paul Sturrock.
Mansfield Town currently sit a dissapointing 18th in the League 2 table. Mansfield drew 1-1 with Doncaster Rovers on Saturday in the FA Cup and will now have to play a replay to see who advances in the cup. Mansfield hot shot Richie Barker is expected to return to the starting XI after impressing against Doncaster on Saturday. Johnny Mullins could feature after recovering from a calf injury whilst striker Danny Reet could start for Mansfield.
Barker has been on a tear this season and has scored 12 goals this season including 9 in league games for the Stags.
Michael Timlin will return to Swindon's starting XI after sitting out the FA Match against Morecambe as per Fulham's request to rest him for the later rounds and not have him cup tied. Sofiane Zaaboub looks set to start for Town. Swindon Town don't appear to have any new injury worries going into this match. Town could be backed by some Sheffield Wednesday fans who have promised to go to the game to say goodbye to Paul Sturrock who was sacked by Wednesday earlier in the season.
Christian Roberts has scored 5 goals in 4 games and will be looking to add to that tally and win a holiday paid for by ex manager Dennis Wise should he score 20 goals this season.
Swindon Town are a lifetime 18-13-9 against Mansfield Town. The last time the 2 clubs met was the 15th March 2003 where Alan Reeves scored Town's only goal at Field Mill.
MJ Jones will be the referee for this match. K D G Lawson and D Unsworth will be the assistant's whilst WA McIntosh takes the role as fourth official.
Mansfield Town 1 - Swindon Town 2, Town have been on a role lately and hopefully all the pieces will come together.
Coca Cola League 2: Walsall V Swindon Town at Bescot Stadium, Saturday 9 December 2006, 3pm Kick Off. Tickets are pay on the day and £18.00 for adults.
