Milton Keynes Dons vs. Swindon Town

National Hockey Stadium, Milton Keynes

Monday 1 January 2007

3 pm Kick Off

UP NEXT: MK Dons

Swindon Town travel to the National Hockey Stadium to play a game that could make or break their season. A loss against the Dons would knock Swindon Town further back in the race to promotion back to League One.

Vital Quotes:

'There are a lot of things we can work on and we know it. When the ball just flies down the middle we have no chance - the diagonal ball is something we will work on.'

Swindon Town Manager Paul Sturrock

Milton Keynes Dons Team News:

Swindon Town will be without Paul Evans, Curtis Weston, Ashan Holgate, Peter Brezovan and Andy Caton. Town find themselves 4th in Leauge 2 now, 3 points behind third place Lincoln City. Manager Paul Sturrock has warned his team to take their goal scoring chances. Christian Roberts is currently the teams top scorer. Swindon have sold out their ticket allocation of 950. Any Swindon fans hoping to watch this game in the home end will be out of luck. You must be on the MK Dons ticket register to get tickets to this match.

Player to watch: Michael Timlin

The hard working midfielder scored his first goal for Swindon Saturday against Notts County. Timlin will have to cup up with the same form if Town are to get anything from this match.

Swindon Town Team News:

The MK Dons extended their winning sequence to six games and put themselves firmly in the promotion picture 4 points ahead of Swindon Town. MK Dons fans see Swindon Town as one of their main rivals due to Swindon fans being against franchising and seemed to be the most vocal apart from Wimbledon fans. Former Swindon skipper Sean O'Hanlon will feature after missing the match at the County Ground earlier in the season.

Player to watch: Izale McLeod

McLeod is the most highly rated striker in League 2 and has scored 15 goals in League play this season. McLeod has scored another 3 in cup competitions and looks comfortable infront of the net at the National Hockey Stadium. MK Dons turned down a £1M bid from Peterborough earlier in the season for his services.

Match Facts & Stats

As we see MK Dons as a new club and NOT the continuation of Wimbledon, Town are 2-1-2 lifetime against the MK Dons. Swindon drew 1-1 at the National Hockey Stadium 2 years ago with a goal from Grant Smith, whilst Town lost 3-1 to MK Dons last season away. Town won the game at the County Ground 2-1 on the 12th September with goals from Paul Evans and Jack Smith.

Match Prediction:

This is going to be one of our hardest games all season. MK Dons have won 6 in a row and won 3-0 against Chester on the weekend. Most fans would be happy with a draw. Town are known for beating the good teams (Walsall) and losing to the bottom teams (Macclesfield). Hopefully history repeats itself of I predict a 2-1 home win.
