Swindon Town 1 - Rochdale 0

County Ground, Swindon

Saturday 12 August 2006

Attendance: 6,771

Swindon Town 1, Rochdale 0

Swindon Town start the season 3-0-0 after a 1-0 win over Rochdale at the County Ground and are now top of League 2 with Walsall.

The first half was poor for Swindon. Swindon appeared to be hoofing the ball, much like last season. Still, went in 1-0 up thanks to a brilliant finish from Rochdale's defender Alan Goodall who scored the first goal of the season for Rochdale..... In the wrong net. It was a half to forget for Swindon but none the less up at the break.

Second half Swindon dominated more and played a lot, lot better, thanks to some flattering words from Town boss Dennis Wise I'm sure.

Town got a bit of luck when Ricky Shakes was lunged at by Rochdale's Alan Goodall who was not having the best of days. Sadly for Christian Roberts who took the goal it was saved after a light kick with no follow up.

Later in the second half, Ernie Cooksey's hand hit the ball it was deemed in the 72nd minute and Town were awarded another Penalty this time Paul Evans got his chance to make fix what went wrong earlier in the game and again, although a good penalty it was saved.

Town were lucky not to give up an equaliser 8 minutes from time after a Lee Crooks effort was saved by Swindon keeper Peter Brezovan.

The final whistle went sending the Swindon Fans home happy. The real test for Dennis Wise' men will be at Darlington on Saturday.

If we can play poor and still win that could be a good sign.
