Chester City 0 - Swindon Town 2

Saunders Honda Stadium

Friday 1 September 2006

Attendance: 3,382

Swindon Town 2, Chester 0

Swindon Town continue their perfect season with a convincing 2-0 win over Chester City at the Saunders Honda Stadium this evening. Over 800 travelling fans who had to battle major road works and congestion due to accidents on the M5 and M6 roared their team onto victory.

The first half both teams looked very sloppy and it appeared that entertaining football was not on the cards for the evening. Aaron Brown had a goal dis-allowed after the referee ruled that Swindon had handballed during the lead up. Both teams went into the break about even. It was the most dissapointing football Swindon had played thus far this season.

After the break Swindon appeared to come out all guns blazing. Dennis Wise must have had strong words with his team. The team appeared anxious in the first half. Something along the lines of calm down must have been said as Town looked more confident on the ball after the break.

Just after the break Lee Peacock converted a Jack Smith free-kick to open the scoring for Town which sent the 800 plus Town fans into raptures. Songs of "we are going up" and "we are invincible" rang throughout the terraces.

Chester looked to have equalised when Lawrence Wilson sent a screamer towards the goal, only to be saved by keeper Peter Brezovan who made an excellent stretching save.

Things then went sour for Town as Jerel Ifil was red carded for kicking the ball away. This was his second yellow of the game and will miss the trip to Wrexham next Saturday.

Town desperatly needed a second goal to give them a bit of a cushion. Lee Peacock who scored the first one got onto the end of the ball and converted an Andy Nicholas free kick for Town's second goal of the evening. Peacock who had a great game had the fans singing "Super Lee Peacock".

After 5 minutes of injury time, The game was over and the 800 plus travelling Town fans were sent home happy. 6 out of 6, Who could ever expect us to start the season this well and only conceed 2 goals all season?

Star Player

Lee Peacock - Had a storming game and brings his goal tally to 3. Peacock played well up front and also had a decent spell at the back when needed.

Player Ratings

Peter Brezovan - 7

Usual reliable self. Made an excellent save in the 2nd half. Sign him up now to a permanent deal.

Jerel Ifil - 5

Not a very good game for "The Beast", Got some decent tackles in but looked like the Ifil of old at times. Got red carded for a kicking the ball away in the 2nd half. Should return to normal after his suspension.

Jack Smith - 6

Decent game, had some good tackles and got the ball forward. Not great, but a decent game all the same.

Charlie Comyn-Platt - 6

Looked ok for his first game of the season. Need's to build confidence but should come good.

Andy Nicholas - 7

Had a good game. His best game so far of the season and set up the free kick which lead to Town's second goal.

Curtis Weston - 7

Was all over the pitch and got stuck in. A good game but went off with an injury.

Aaron Brown - 7

Great game for Brown who is looking to silence his critics after handing in a transfer request following Town's relegation to League 2. Had a goal dis-allowed. Deserves to be in the team.

Paul Evans - 7

Decent game in midfield. No free kick heroics today, Was all over the pitch cannot fault him.

Ricky Shakes - 7

Looked fantastic on the wing. Flew down the wing late in the 2nd half and put on a fantastic display. Managed to get a cross in the box!

Christian Roberts - 8

Roberts chased everything down and gave it his all, has been very useful this season. Still suffering the effects of a head injury from last weekend.

* Lee Peacock - 9

Absolutely superb. Couldn't have done more if you asked him. Scored 2 goals and worked well when he had to at the back. Our MOTM.

Manager Rating

Dennis Wise - 8 - Although the team started off slow, appeared to give them a lift at the break during his half time team talk. Gave young Andy Caton a game and any team that goes 6-0 can't really be doing much wrong.

Opponent Rating

Mark Wright - 5 - Couldn't get it right today. His team did apply pressure but Chester will be midtable at best this season with this display.

The Fans

Absolutely fantastic. The travelling army of over 800 made way more noise than the Chester fans, and without a drum too! Many fans arrived late due to the many accidents on the M5 and M6. Some fans did not arrive until the second half.

The Stadium

A tidy small stadium. About the right size for a club the size of Chester. The set up in terms of catering was appalling though. There was no food or drink really at half time as the club only budgeted for 400 Town fans which left many of us who did not have time to get some food prior to kick off due to the traffic hungry. Also the club does not serve beer in the ground despite advertising this on the website. Terrible catering even if as they say "we have the most away fans they have seen"

Glad to read that Lee P had a good game, he looked out of salts against Stockport, with his work rate and Christians its bound to up set defences.
