Peterborough United got a fully deserved victory over a poor Swindon Town today at the County Ground. The loss means that Swindon drop to second in the League 2 table, 1 point behind Wycombe who won their match this afternoon.
The less said about this match the better. We will keep the pain to a minimum for those unlucky fans who had to wtach this dismal effort.
Former Town loanee Trevor Benjamin started for Peterborough and showed more passion in the first 45 minutes than he did the whole three months at Swindon. Benjamin would score Peterborough's loan goal on the 48th minute after Swindon goalkeeper Peter Brezovan fumbled a save.
There was controversy surrounding the goal as the referee had raised the whistle to his mouth to end the first half but the ref amazingly changed his mind allowing the Peterborough goal to stand. Swindon did deserve to be down probably 3 or 4-0 at half time.
The second half started a bit better after a double half time substitution which saw an unfit Paul Ince come off for Aaron Brown and Fola Onibuje come on for Andy Caton.
Town pressured in the second half and missed a couple of great chances to level. Christian Roberts who was very quiet most of the game hit the post on the 56th minute.
Town pretty much chased the ball for the rest of the game and rushed quite a few free kicks. Swindon would bring on Royce Brownlie towards the end of the match meaning Swindon had 4 strikers on the pitch, however none of them could score.
Town lost the game 1-0 however the more concerning thing is Town have not scored many goals from open play this season. Swindon may need to dip into the transfer market to find a natural goal scorer in January.
