Swindon Town 0 - Lincoln City 1

County Ground, Swindon

Saturday 28 October 2006

Attendance: 7,685 (983 Away Supporters)

Swindon 0, Lincoln 1

Lincoln City go top of League Two after a non-convincing 1-0 win at the County Ground this afternoon against promotion rivals Swindon Town. Jamie Forrester scored the only goal of the game for the Imps. Forrester scored in the 63rd minute to secure the points for the Imps.

Swindon Town started the game the much better team and dominated Lincoln City. The Swindon fans were were well behind the team whilst the 983 Lincoln Fans were dead quiet until they went ahead in the game and all of a sudden they remembered there was a football game on.

The prolific striker Forrester scored his 7th goal in the last three games for Lincoln after the ball fell in front of him. Forresters striker came from 15 yards out and easily beat keeper Phil Smith who had a good game between the sticks.

Swindon Town should have opened the scoring on the 11th minute but Lee Peacock's effort went high and wide leaving the game as 0-0.

Fola Onibuje also had several good chances to score but failed to convert.

Lincoln City had a decent game in the second half owning possession for the most part. The Imps went ahead and the Lincoln fans came alive.

The game carried on with the referee missing many key decisions which should have given Swindon Town the advantage.

The game ended 1-0 to Lincoln and City now sit first in the League 2 table. The Lincoln fans rejoiced as the Swindon fans appreciated the effort's of their team who fought well.

Swindon Town's downfall appears to be a lack of a natural goal scorer, lets hope Ady Williams, or whoever comes in can bring in a bonifide goal scorer.

Star Player

Fola Onibuje - Did well in the air but needs to learn to control the ball to put it in the back of the goal. Onibuje ran his heart out as always.

Lincoln Fans

The Lincoln fans were dead quiet until they scored. You could mistake being in a library if you were in the Lincoln end. Towards the end of the game their fans began to sing realising they could be top of the League. Many of the Lincoln fans had to be escorted by Police out of the ground due to intelligence gathered by police prior to the match.

Atmosphere

The atmosphere was electric in the Town End this game. The fans were firmly behind Ady Williams' team and didn't look as if they missed Dennis Wise at all. Even going down 1-0 the fans were singing their Team on.

They had one chance and scored. In my opinion they are nothing special and are a dirtry team.

p.s. 13 yellows no red cards in 18 games, really dirty eh.

biased i suppose, but i witnessed your number 23 and 3 constantly throughout the game grabbing shirts and pulling over our players. Also i ain't an old chap look at my user name Old Chap!!! perhaps the ref took a fancy to your players. You are a mediocre team and your fans are awful until you score a goal. OLD CHAP!

Yes I think Lincoln are a very lucky side at the moment, a 'purple patch' as they say... not that impressed with them.
APG_STFC
Well done Red Gilly for putting that prat in his/her place.

mate your sulking cause u where beaten by a better team.'non-convincing 1-0 win' don't make me laugh.up the imps.
ed_imp
Hmm..not impressed by you or your team - so button it wimp !
APG_STFC
Lincoln were equally matched by Swindon the only difference was you had One chance and scored but we had several and missed, not exactly making you the better side, plus you should have had a player sent off, I am mor mature than to sulk over a game of football the telling will be at the end of the seaon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
red_gilly
I was not impressed by Lincoln but maybe we got them on an off day. If we had a 20 goal a season striker we would have won this easily.

we played as well as you allowed us to , which was just enough. i am really surprised at the vehement comment, god help you when you really see a lucky or a dirty team. me i thought you were one of the better teams we'ved played. and i hope you have better luck as a club soon. but you really need new glasses ;) also, best of luck to your former player who had a stroke.
C T E
Thanks I have just bought new glasses. It was an even game with you just having the edge by taking your ONE chance anyway who cares when you hear of a young 27 year old having a stroke I think that puts thing into perspective and so I will no longer be wasting my time squabbling over a game of football after all it is subjective.
