'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Walsall 0 - Swindon Town 2

Bescot Stadium, Walsall

Saturday 8 December 2006

Attendance: 6,812

Walsall 0, Swindon Town 2

A superb display by Swindon Town infront of over 1,000 travelling fans see's Town beat League leaders Walsall 2-0 at Bescot Stadium this afternoon.

Going into this game the Bescot faithful had yet to see The Saddlers lose a game at home and Bescot Stadium had become a fortress of such. That was until Swindon Town came along!

Swindon Town came out all guns blazing and played the best football they have played all season and it could not have come at a better time. Not one Swindon Town player was booked in this game and with over 1,200 Swindon fans at Bescot, the team was determined to treat them to something special.

Swindon Town's superstar striker of the future Lukas Jutkiewicz opened the scoring for Swindon with his first senior goal on the 23rd minute which sent the Swindon faithful into a frenzy.

Most fans had gone into the game thinking Town would lose 2-0,3-0 or worse after recent performances.

Walsall's best chance of the first half came on the 34th minute when Town goalkeeper Phil Smith kept Town ahead thanks to a terrific stop on Daniel Fox's 25 yard effort.

The departing Mark Kinsella, who will join Charlton Athletic Monday was gave a standing ovation as he was substituted on the 60th minute.

Town looked determined and making sure that the home team had little room to move.

Town fans were sent into dreamland as Walsall gave away a penalty to Swindon after Scott Dann had fouled goalscorer Jutkiewicz.

Christian Roberts then hammered in the penalty and Town were beating the League leaders 2-0. Walsall had one conceeded one goal at home this year in league play and Town had managed to score 2 against them.

Town would go on to win a fantastic game of skill from the Swindon side and give Paul Sturrock's side 5 wins in 6 games and give Town their first win at Bescot Stadium since April 1969.

Star Player

Lukas Jutkiewicz - Scored his first senior goal and scored it much the way Sam Parkin would, cool, calm and with composure. Lukas was a handful today and deserves to start next Saturday against Bristol Rovers. Fans will have a chance to meet our MOTM by visiting the STFC Superstore on Friday between 530-730pm.
