Cheltenham Town 1 - Swindon Town 1

Whaddon Road, Cheltenham

Saturday 25 August 2007

Attendance: 5,442 (1,784 Swindon Fans)

Cheltenham 1, Swindon 1

A Blair Sturrock goal ensures that Swindon get a share of the points this afternoon at Whaddon Road. In Truth this was a game Swindon should have won 3 or 4-1.

Swindon Town had most of the possession in the first half as well as most of the chances.

Blair Sturrock would score Swindon's goal on the 35th minute which must have brought a sigh of relief to the striker who had been getting some grief from the away support.

The game was mostly all Swindon in truth as the large vocal Swindon support cheered their team on.

Swindon looked destined for victory however an Ashley Vincent wonder goal to the top left of the Swindon goal 20 minutes from time gave Cheltenham a share of the points.

Swindon almost managed to snatch all three points, four minutes from time thanks to a instinctive Miguel Comminges shot which was spectacularly saved by Cheltenham keeper Shane Higgs.

Swindon were unlucky to draw here and the referee seemed pretty one sided booked Christian Roberts for a challenge on a loose ball misplayed by the Cheltenham keeper.

Star Player

Sofiane Zaaboub - Sofi was spot on today and with a bit of trickery and running at players he made a difference. If we had a striker who could finish Swindon would have won 3 or 4-1.

Player Ratings

Phil Smith - 7

Phil did well yesterday and kept Swindon in the game. Ashely Vincent's goal was a fantastic strike and there was nothing Smith could really do about it.

Jack Smith - 7

Typical Smith performance at the back with Ifil, Vincent and Aljofree. All four looked solid, Smith's booking was a bit petty but that's referees for you.

Jerel Ifil - 7

Jerel did well again and his discipline this season seems to ahve improved. His work rate is second to none. Unfortunately for us I can see a few Championship sides coming in for Ifil before the end of the season should his lvel of performance continue.

Hasney Aljofree - 6.5

Another good showing by the Captain and as noted before it is going to be very hard for Ady Williams to get back into the team when he is fit.

Jamie Vincent - 7

Another good peformance from Vincent. Certainly doesn't look out of place. You may not hear much of him but we are not allowing goals in so he must be doing something right.

Christian Roberts - 7.5

Superb. Has accepted he is now a winger and has put in some exceptional performances. I do hope he keeps this up however he has a history of letting his performances drop as the season goes on.

Craig Easton - 7

Formed a great partnership with Michael Pook in midfield. Was unlucky not to score towards the end of the game. His work rate is fantastic and him and Peacock will be incredible together in midfield.

Michael Pook - 7

Has gotten a lot of grief from fans but he protects the back four, puts in tackles and generally gets the ball forward. Couldn't be faulted. Pook has certainly improved his performances this term.

*Sofiane Zaaboub - 8

Sofi was spot on today and with a bit of trickery and running at players he made a difference. If we had a striker who could finish Swindon would have won 3 or 4-1. Probably his best performance since signing a 2 year deal last season.

Blair Sturrock - 7

Has got a bit of abuse lately but he was fantastic Saturday. When he scored you could sense the relief from him. Was unlucky not to score another 1 or 2 times. Ran forward and looked a totally different player. Probably not the solution to our goal scoring problems as noted previously but well done to Sturrock Jr.

Lee Peacock - 7

You know what you are going to get with Peacock, 100% work rate and running the whole game. Peacock did just that however you can tell he wants to be in midfield.

Miguel Comminges - 7

What a threat this guy poses every time he comes off of the bench. Fantastic player for us and was unlucky not to score towards the end. A very quick reaction from Cheltenham keeper Shane Higgs kept the score at 1-1.

Ibon Arrieta - 6

Wasn't on long enough to judge but didn't pose any threat really. Gave the ball away in what would be Swindon's last chance of the game.

Manager Rating

Paul Sturrock 8/10 - We thought that Steve Adams would be back in the side however Sturrock stuck with the same team he had last week and it paid off. They look a flowing side and so far this season do not look out of their depth in League One. Sturrock's side have yet to lose this season. As long as they keep picking up points we should be fine.

Opponent Rating

John Ward 8/10 - Ward had his team going all out against our defence and the team was unlucky to score on several occasions. Ward brought on Ashley Vincent on the 66th minute and it paid dividends right away with him scoring a wonder goal to give his side a share of the points.
