OPPOSITION VIEW: Pompey

OPPOSITION VIEW: Pompey
Thanks to our friends over at Vital Pompey for taking part in this Q&A. Be sure to stop by for their view of our match by Clicking Here.

1. As short as you can, what's happened to Pompey since the highs of the FA Cup final?
In short, we are paying the price for such things I guess! We are by no means alone in doing this (spending beyond our means) though, despite what many fans might think! Very, very few teams (especially when in the top flight) do this in the modern era.

2. Who is to blame for the current crisis at the club?
A number of owners, and people involved with them, stretching back donkies years! The modern era, of big money in football, has just accelerated these problems.

3. Are Pompey out of the woods now?
Not a chance, still far from certain there will even by a PFC (as we know it) in the coming months!

4. On to football matters, what do you know about Swindon Town?
In all honesty, not a great deal. You won the league two title last season and have some decent players, including Matty Ritchie who we should NEVER have let go! Paulo Di Canio is well known to just about anyone who follows football, so what a character you have as the manager.

I have enjoyed some decent games against Swindon though, most memorable would probably have to be a 3-3 draw back in 1999 I think it was - we were 3-1 down at half time with an outfield player having come on to go in goal, but still drew 3-3 in the end when we had fans at either end behind the goals.

5. What Pompey player should Town fans look out for?
It seems, at the moment, we are a team of decent individuals but not one that is quite gelling as a team. So, on their day, a number could trouble you but who this will be 'having their day' I could not say! Brian Howard though, if on his game, could dictate things from midfield for us.

6. Is Michael Appleton the man to keep Pompey up?
Michael Appleton...
Michael Appleton...
In Appy we trust, he will never leave us, Michael Appleton!

7. Do fans back Appleton?
See above!

Although to be fair as much as his hands are tied I think it is only right, as football fans, that we should knock him occasionally if we feel he deserves it and there has been the odd questionable moment from him. Given real backing (I do not mean a fortune financially either) I think he is a cracking manager in the making.

8. Where do you see Pompey finishing this season?
Just finishing the season could be an achievement! With 10pts to be taken off, if we stay in league one I think we would have done bloody well to be honest with you.

9. Where do you see Swindon Finishing this season?
Seems to have been a slight struggle at the moment, compared to last season, but I would think mid table safety or top half should be fairly easy with a possible play-off push perhaps?

10. What are your predictions for the match?
A draw would be a decent result, home or not but I am the optimist so I will see a first home win for us, 2-1!

Good Luck Pompey and thanks for your time!
No worries, sorry it is a bit limited with some answers, you just get tired of talking about our situation time and time again, as I am sure you can relate to given Swindon's problems previously. Good luck to Swindon too, I look forward to the meeting at The County Ground later in the season.
